Windows Media Player - Server Execution Failed

Bought a BOSE SoundTouch 20 to play music outdoors. The SoundTouch currently can access your music library from Windows Media Player, iTunes or NAS. All good except WMP won't play because of a "server execution failed" error.

Tried to fix WMP - Media Player fixes:

  • Uninstall/reinstall WMP
  • Stop/restart Media Player Network Sharing Service - move files so WMP can rebuild
  • Clean boot troubleshooting
  • Re-registering jscript .dlls
  • System File Checker - sfc /scannow
  • Checked Events Logs
Suspect that upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 might be the culprit.

Could go through recovery process to take the computer back to factory state. Frankly, I don't need the pain and don't have that much time.

Gave up and installed iTunes.
